Captain’s Cottage
Hobart, Tasmania
A Heritage Cottage Rich in Atmosphere
Captain’s Cottage is a one-bedroom home quietly positioned near the heart of Hobart. Built in the 1800s for a sea captain, the cottage has been carefully restored by its landscape designer Host with respect for its history and a clear eye for gorgeous gardens. The interior feels intimate and cocooning, with original features and soft lighting. The internal courtyard is a standout feature, creating a strong sense of retreat despite the central location. Time here is often spent slowly — over breakfast at the table, wandering nearby streets, or returning home for an early evening in.
With cafés, markets and wine bars within walking distance, the city remains close, yet the cottage itself feels removed once inside the gate. It’s a deeply atmospheric stay shaped by history, care, and beautiful objects.
