Nellie and the Sugar Shack

South Coast, NSW

Retro Cottage with Lakeside Soul

Overlooking St Georges Basin with direct water access, Nellie and the Sugar Shack is a one-bedroom 1960s cottage lovingly revived without losing its retro heart. Once destined for demolition, this “mini Beachcomber” was rescued and restored, its orange doors still swinging wide with nostalgic charm. Inside, fresh whites meet vintage character; outside, gum trees frame sparkling lake views and stunning sunsets. Days unfold slowly here: wander the foreshore walk, watch kangaroos grazing at dusk, or launch into the basin for boating, swimming, or fishing. Fifteen minutes away, the white sands of Jervis Bay and the cafes of Huskisson beckon, though you may prefer to linger on the deck with a glass in hand. Add to the mix Nellie the 1960s caravan — lovingly restored during lockdown — and you’ve got a stay where whimsy, history, and waterside serenity collide.
