Wild Earth Lodge

Makarora, Central Otago, New Zealand

A Handcrafted Mountain Retreat on the Edge of Wilderness

A handcrafted barn and cottage set within a mountain valley, surrounded by rivers, peaks and wide open land. Built as a place to slow the pace of daily life, Wild Earth Lodge offers two distinct stays: The Barn, a two-bedroom retreat sleeping four, and The Cottage, a private one-bedroom sanctuary for two.

Both are grounded in comfort, with considered architecture, outdoor bathing, wood burners and generous views across Central Otago’s wilderness. Days here are shaped by mountains, weather, warmth and nature rather than distraction, creating a restorative retreat with direct access to the wild.
