Cedar Cottage

Meander Valley, Tasmania

A Hand-Built Cedar Cottage Rooted in Place

Cedar Cottage has been created through family collaboration and a deep respect for rural Tasmanian building traditions. Clad entirely in Western red cedar shingles, the two-bedroom slow stay draws on the forms of early settler homes and mountain huts, with pitched roofs and carefully placed windows designed for warmth and shelter. The interiors feel snug and considered, shaped by natural materials and a strong connection to the landscape and lake beyond the glass.

Outside, a cedar hot tub, large fire pit and productive veggie garden aptly named ‘Veg Mahal’ extend daily life onto the deck, encouraging shared meals and time spent outdoors. Originally built as a gathering place for family and friends, the cottage carries that sense of care into each stay. It’s the perfect spot for a grounded, centred Tasmanian experience — one that values craft, sustainability, and genuine hospitality in equal measure.
